How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

16 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

I took ski lessons and then the coach introduced me to Special Olympics. I feel that having sport in my life has made me much healthier and has helped me make many new friends.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

One barrier I overcome at Special Olympics was the cold weather. I learned to dress warm.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

My favourite moment was being draped in an Ontario provincial flag after winning a gold medal for the Giant Slalom at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024.

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

It has taught me the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle. Now on top of my Special Olympics sports, I go exercise at the nearby YMCA.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

Being part of Special Olympics Team Canada means so much to me. I am very honoured to compete. My goal is to go for gold!

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

I want people to know that I am kind and carefree. I am no different from anyone else.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

I would suggest that you sign up because exercise is very important and it helps makes me confident. Special Olympics teaches every athlete to 'be brave in the attempt'.
