How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

Since 2018.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

A former coach guided us towards Special Olympics as a way to support my skating. It has opened up opportunities and allowed me to follow a path that suits me.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

There was a time when skating practice stopped being enjoyable and the circumstances were no longer supportive. We changed my environment and had new people around me, and it is now better than ever. Sometimes a change in circumstance is needed to find your happiness.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

My favourite memory is going to the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024, earning my gold medals, and meeting other skaters at my level.

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

Special Olympics has taught me that winning isn't everything, doing your best and enjoying the time with your friends is more important. Also. that given the right goal, I can do things over and over again until I master it without getting frustrated or discouraged.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

It means being part of a team that values friendship and support within competition. My goal is to do my best and aim for gold.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

I want people to know that everyone has different needs, and not all challenges are visible.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

Take a chance, it is worth it.
