How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

16 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

I started skiing when I was 5 and then I joined special Olympics at age 15. I still ski with Special Olympics but I found other sports to join too!

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

I have become more independent. I get myself ready for the ski hill, put on all my own equipment and make sure I have everything with me.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

My favourite memory has been when my whole family flew out to Calgary to see me race at National Games.

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

I have learned to work hard and to take care of myself. I eat well and get lots of sleep so that I can compete.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

Being part of Special Olympics Team Canada means the world to me. My goal for Turin is to “ski fast and be humble“ and to meet athletes from all over the world.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

I love having Down Syndrome – I can learn to do everything.
