How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

I have been involved for 3 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

Special Olympics was introduced to me by a close friend. Special Olympics creates a space for me to be myself, build social skills, interact with new people, be part of something huge, and live a meaningful life.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

A challenge for me has been to build my social skills. Initially, I didn't enjoy socializing or having friends. I would say no one wanted to be my friend. Now I am more confident in talking to people and have friends.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

Winning is my favourite Special Olympics memory!

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

I am more comfortable working in a team setting.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

Being a member of Special Olympics Team Canada gives me the opportunity to travel and meet new people.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

They deserve to be heard and to participate in any sport they are interested in.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

I would say don't be afraid go for it!
