How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

A family friend of ours knew about the Special Olympics program being offered at Blue Mountain Ski Club and they accepted me when I applied. I’ve been able to make new friends and it gives me a sense of purpose.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

A challenge I’ve overcome is being shy and meeting new people. I like competing in sports because it gives me something in common with my teammates.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

Going to Calgary and competing in the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games!

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

Special Olympics has taught me the importance of staying active and healthy.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

It is an honour and a privilege to be part of Special Olympics Team Canada. My goal for Turin is to try my best and to have fun.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

I’d like them to know that I’m capable and I can contribute to my community.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

Pick a sport or program that you enjoy and get involved right away. Don’t wait any longer!
