How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
25 years.
How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?
I loved it when I first joined. Special Olympics keeps me busy, teaches me new skills and keeps me healthy.
What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?
The biggest barrier I overcame was that I couldn’t get to work and my sport events. But now I’ve found that ParaTranspo can take me and I’ve learned how to book my rides.
What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?
My favourite memory is winning medals in cross country skiing!
What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?
It has taught me the importance of fitness, and I’ve learned many new skills by working on a team.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?
It is an honour to represent Canada. I am looking forward to meeting people from different countries and trying new foods.
What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
They love to compete – and win!
What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?
