How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

20 years

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

After high school, I needed something to do and heard about Special Olympics. I started with a couple of sports and now today I do eight different sports. I've found lots of friends and I've gotten much stronger being part of Special Olympics.

What is one challenge you have overcome?

Fear of the unknown. I was hesitant to join at first, but once I got there, I found lots of people like me and I enjoyed doing the different sports.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

Going to the different Games with my friends and dancing at windup.

What have you learned from Special Olympics?

That I can help other athletes when they are having trouble with their sport.

What does being a part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

I am so happy for the chance to go and ski with my friends. I lost my big brother over Christmas so these games are something to look forward to. My goal is to do the best I can.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

That we are strong, swift and brave.

What would you say to another athlete who is thinking about signing up for their local Special Olympics program?

I'd say, just do it! It's a lot of fun!
