How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
I have been a Special Olympics athlete for 14 years.
How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?
Some friends were involved and I thought it would be fun. I have gained so many new friends and I am involved in many other sports.
What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?
Disappointment when I don’t win a medal in competition. I learned as long as I do my best, I am not disappointed.
What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?
Attending the National Games in both winter and summer sports.
What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?
Participating in Special Olympics has taught me to keep working, and to cooperate with others.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?
Being selected to Team Canada is a very proud moment for me. My goal is to do my very best and beat my personal best and hopefully win a medal.
What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
We are capable of anything, it may take us longer to understand the rules but we are very able to do sports.
What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?
Do it. It will change your life.
