How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

15 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

A friend told me about Special Olympics and said to come join a workout. 1 day became 14 years and it has changed my life completely.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

My dream was to go to Nationals for athletics, but it never happened – until I found snowshoeing! Now I never thought I would go this far… to be named to Special Olympics Team Canada is an honour.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

My favourite memory was winning gold at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games Calgary 2024!

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

To enjoy myself and have fun even if it’s work. Now when working out I enjoy myself because it’s fun with Special Olympics.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

It blows my mind that I get to be named to Special Olympics Team Canada and wear the maple leaf on my back. When I get to Turin, my goal is to enjoy it. It's a once in a lifetime experience, so I will be excited and enjoying every minute of it.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

We are the same as everyone else, just a different point of view.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

Join Special Olympics, it is the best thing if you don't know what do to after school or after work! Join special Olympics, it is the best thing and it will change your life, as it did mine!
