How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
12 years old
How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?
I started taking part in swimming competitions. It was a very rewarding experience to be at events and win medals. It helped me gain confidence and make new friends.
What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?
I have difficulty verbalizing my needs and feelings. Participating in Special Olympics has enabled me to express my feelings and needs, even though sometimes it's difficult for me.
What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?
When I found out I'd been selected to take part in the National and World Games.
What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?
To keep a positive attitude even if sometimes the day doesn't go so well at work.
What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?
It's a great source of pride and happiness for me. Every time I talk about it to my friends and family, I have a big smile on my face and I feel that people are very happy for me. My goal for Turin is to discover a new country and do my best to win medals.
What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
We have the same determination to perform as other athletes, we just need to be given the chance to do so.
What advice or message would you share with another athlete considering joining their local Special Olympics program?
To try several sports, even if you've never played them before, and above all to have fun.
