How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
I have been a Special Olympics athlete for 15 years.
How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?
I first started playing baseball with my friends and then tried lots of different sports. It is so much fun and I like learning new things and meeting new friends. My dad and my brother coach me in powerlifting so it is very special.
What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?
I was scared when I first started skiing because it was new and I was scared to go fast. I kept going and practicing and had good coaches and they taught me to ski. I learned that I can ski and not be afraid to go fast. I also taught my brothers how to ski!

My favourite memory with Special Olympics was winning two gold medals in skiing!
What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?
I am so happy to be with Team Canada. My family is so proud of me. I want to ski fast in Italy and win races.
What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
We can do anything that we want to do. We try hard, we train hard, and we can do it.
What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?
You will have so much fun and meet new friends and learn new sports.
