How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

8 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

When I was in grade 3, Special Olympics started in Lab City. I went the second week, and I have been going ever since. I met lots of new people and played lots of new sports.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

I was the youngest athlete in my club and I had to learn how to get ready for sports and play with all the athletes who were older. I had to learn all the rules, but I had good coaches who helped me learn and supported me along the way.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

Skiing in the Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Winter Games in 2023. We had to ski in the dark and in the rain, it was slushy and cold, but I brought home 3 gold medals and personal best times!

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

To try my best, always.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

I am looking forward to seeing a new place, and making everyone in Labrador proud. I hope to bring home a medal to Labrador. I am excited to go but I love Labrador, my home!

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

Even when I’m not the bravest, I can try my best! I work hard and train hard, and I am going to make Labrador proud.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

Do it! Try your best and make friends while staying active and healthy.
