How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?

24 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?

Special Olympics was first recommended to me when I was living in a supportive home. Being a part of the movement has helped me to become more confident and has helped with my social skills.

What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?

I am now independent and no longer need the same support in my life. It took a while, but it is possible.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?

I have many memories throughout my years with Special Olympics – too many to recall!

What has participating in Special Olympics taught you?

Special Olympics has taught me perseverance. I know I can push myself to accomplish my goals.

What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?

My goal for Turin is to be the very best I can be.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

Athletes with disabilities can do more than most people realize. If not held back, they can soar.

What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?

Special Olympics can be a great opportunity to have a place where you can develop many skills, both in sport and in your personal life.
