How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
I have been an athlete with Special Olympics since 2013.
How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?
I started with bowling and then learned how to skate. Speed skating makes me feel more included. I was able to compete with other athletes.
What is a challenge or barrier that you have overcome?
In the beginning, no body knew me or wanted to be my friend. Special Olympics made me feel included and like I belonged. Speed skating really helped me because the regular group accepted me for who I am and I’ve been part of the group for awhile.
What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?
My favorite moment with Special Olympics was meeting the Canadian National Team at Special Olympics National Games Calgary in 2024. I’m also pretty proud that I have been chosen to be on the Team Canada and have the opportunity to represent Canada in Italy in 2025

It’s important to treat others as you want to be treated. And, dedication is key to success
What does being part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?
This is a huge achievement for me! My goal is to have fun and make new friends. I also want to achieve a new PB.
What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
No matter what disability, we should all get to feel like we belong and be accepted.
What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved in Special Olympics?
Give it try, you never know if you like it until you try it.
