How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
I have been involved with Special Olympics for 12 years.
How were you first introduced to the movement and what got you hooked?
I started working for a Special Olympics Chapter office as an intern in College and never looked back. I was hooked after my first Provincial Games, 2 months into my internship watching the power of Healthy Athletes firsthand and the impact sport could have on everyone involved!
How has being involved with Special Olympics impacted your life?
Working and volunteering with Special O over the years has been the highlight of my career, and has had an immense impact on my life, my friends and support network, and my outlook on life as a whole. Being alongside Special O athletes and those involved in the organization has brought me so much joy that is has shaped my career trajectory, values, and view of the impact sport can have.
What is your favourite part about your role on the team?
Having a front seat to watching the members of Special Olympics Team Canada become part of a team regardless of their role, sport or experience and wanting the same thing for each other - for everyone to do their best and to have an amazing experience at Games.
What is your proudest moment with Special Olympics?
Walking into an Opening Ceremony as a member of a team for any Games never gets old - I'm just as proud of the team and how hard we've worked to get to that moment every time.
What would you say to someone who is considering volunteering with Special Olympics?
Don't second guess anything - just do it! It will be the single-best and most personally rewarding thing you do this year!
