How long have you been involved with Special Olympics?
I've been a Special Olympics athlete for 24 years.

How did you first get involved with Special Olympics and how has it changed your life?
I got involved in Special Olympics when I was in High School and it has made me feel like I belong, so much more than when I did other sports.

What is one barrier you have overcome? How did you do it and what did you learn?
I was shy and still am but Special Olympics has helped me overcome that a lot.

What has been your favourite memory with Special Olympics?
Getting selected for National and World teams and meeting people from all over the world.

What have you learned playing sports that you use in work/school/life?
I learned about making friends and staying fit and healthy and that helps me work with others well and I work in the health and wellness industry.

What does being a part of Special Olympics Team Canada mean to you and what is your goal for Turin?
It means so much, to meet new people and compete against people from all over the world.

What do you want people to know about athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities?
Athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities are capable of setting goals and achieving them. Come up to us, say hello, and give us a "good job!"—we appreciate the support!

What advice/message would you share with another athlete who is thinking about signing up for their local Special Olympics program?
Do it! Special Olympics allows you to meet new people, stay fit and have fun.
